Soundproofing a Home Cinema - September 22nd, 2008
A dedicated home cinema requires a low cost and efficient system to reduce unwanted noise from entering or exiting the room. This will allow one to enjoy the cinema experience at reference levels without the distraction of outside noise. Additionally, other occupants and neighbours will not be disturbed by the cinema action.
There are four primary isolation elements involved which are Decoupling, Mass, Absorption and Damping. These elements can be easily included in a cost effective design, combining readily available building materials, such as insulation and plasterboard with specialised components such as Green Glue.
The following diagram (courtesy of the SoundProofingCompany) shows the damping effect of Green Glue applied between two layers of plasterboard. If you need any information with sourcing Green Glue, please contact us.
