Colour Changing Lighting Systems - November 4th, 2008
Most lighting control systems today offer the ability to mix and create custom colours. Colour changing lighting is not something new; it is extensively used in commercial applications like theatres, concerts, etc. However, there has been quite some interest lately in using colour changing lights in domestic environments.
Lighting control systems like Mode Lighting and Lutron Homeworks, now offer DMX controllers that’s used in order to achieve the desired colour changing effect. Interfacing with the house’s light switches is an easy task, due to complete customisation capability of the wall plates. One can now integrate a DMX controller easily, if a colour changing effect is required.
However, there are times that stand alone systems would be more suitable for smaller or single room installations. A good example would be lighting up the exterior walls of a home, and washing all walls with different colours. A home cinema installation would probably also need a different colour changing system. DMX controllers offer RS232 ports, in order a home automation control system like AMX and Philips Pronto, could be used for selecting colours.
Colour changing lighting adds a definite personal character to any bespoke installation. The most common lights used are LED’s. They are very efficient and they tend to generate a very small amount of heat. Colour changing lights enhance the appearance of any space, and the unlimited custom colour combinations ensure a correct lighting mood for any occasion.
